Today was a special day at the Amelia Street Urban Forest! Two of our dedicated Friends had the opportunity to host a fantastic group of volunteers from VCU, all participating in an initiative designed to connect first-generation college students ahead of the upcoming fall semester.

Despite the summer heat, we rolled up our sleeves and tackled several important projects:

🌿 Cleared and refreshed pathways to keep the space safe and walkable
🌳 Spread mulch to define trails and protect our growing native plants
🪴 Potted up plant volunteers (aka surprise seedlings!) to be nurtured and sold during our fall fundraiser

This kind of hands-on work is what keeps the urban forest thriving—not just as a green space, but as a living, learning environment for students and neighbors alike.

We’re so grateful to the VCU volunteers who showed up with open hearts and willing hands. Their efforts are a reminder of what’s possible when the community comes together in service of something bigger.

💚 Want to help us keep the momentum going? Your donations make a huge difference. Contributions help us purchase mulch, tools, gloves, wheelbarrows, and other essential supplies that make volunteer days like today possible.
