This past week has been an inspiring reminder of how much stronger we are when we work together. At Amelia Street Urban Forest, we know that green spaces thrive when they’re supported not just by volunteers, but also by a network of educators, organizations, and city leaders working toward a shared vision.

Thanks to two wonderful events—Outdoor Educator Day at Shalom Farms and the Skills Café hosted by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay—we had the chance to connect with so many people and groups who share our commitment to education and environmental stewardship.

Growing Partnerships

During these events, we were able to build relationships with:

  • 🌱 The City of Richmond’s Office of Sustainability, working to integrate green infrastructure and climate resilience throughout our city.

  • 🌳 Capital Trees, whose work beautifying and restoring public landscapes in Richmond is a model for how native plants and public spaces can transform neighborhoods.

  • 🐦 Future Habitats, leading the way in creating spaces that provide essential homes for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

  • 🎓 The University of Richmond Office of Sustainability, engaging students and faculty in hands-on sustainability projects and community collaborations.

  • And of course, our friends at Shalom Farms and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, who continue to convene and empower groups like ours to dream bigger together.

Why These Connections Matter

Every conversation planted seeds for future projects. These new relationships will help us:

  • Share resources and expertise on sustainable landscaping and native plants.

  • Strengthen educational opportunities for students at Amelia Street School and the surrounding community.

  • Collaborate on creative ways to improve access to green spaces for all Richmond residents.

  • Amplify the impact of conservation efforts by aligning with city and regional sustainability goals.

We believe that just like the native plants we steward at Amelia Street Urban Forest, these partnerships will take root, grow, and bloom into something beautiful and lasting.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited for the road ahead and grateful for the momentum building in Richmond’s green community. Together, we can nurture not only pollinator gardens and pathways but also a thriving, connected network of people who care deeply about nature, equity, and education.

Stay tuned as these new partnerships unfold—and thank you for being part of the growth!
